To the editor: With reference to the letter of K. A. Oster (1), we wish to report a trial of treatment with folic acid, at daily dose of 1 mg/kg body weight during 1 month, in 10 patients with gout (five with hyperuricemia and hyperuricosuria, five with isolated hyperuricosuria).
In one case, an attack of gout developed on the sixth day. Blood uric acid has been determined weekly in the patients with hyperuricemia, and no change was found during the period of folic acid administration. We observed a fall of 10% in urine uric acid excretion during the first week
