A dearth of pediatric echocardiography textbooks existed a few years ago, but there are now available a number of excellent monographs on this subject. Dr. Meyer has provided a valuable addition for the bookshelf of the physician interested in cardiac disease in children. The chapters on principles of ultrasound and instrumentation by Mr. Russel Uphoff provide valuable information in a format that is easy for even the beginner to understand. The chapter by Dr. Meyer on the pediatric approach provides valuable insight for physicians who are most accustomed to adult echocardiography. The chapter on the critically ill neonate is valuable
