To the editor: Data in a recent article on Sjögren's syndrome in scleroderma by Cipoletti and associates (Ann Intern Med 87:535-541, 1977) apparently differ enough from ours (1) to cite us in the abstract, and to have been, to a certain extent, the article's raison d' étrè. Explanation of the differences resides in the scope of each study, in inadequate analysis of our data by the authors, and in the interpretation of our respective results. In contradistinction to the Cipoletti study, which is limited to clinical data and lip biopsies, our study included three more sensitive tests of salivary-gland involvement
