Although the MEDLARS-MEDLINE system rapidly produces custom-tailored bibliographies on a staggering range of topics, specialized and annotated bibliographies can still save researchers much time and money. Women in Medicine is one of the best of its kind to appear in recent years. It offers 4087 references to published works that span the period 1750 through 1975; these are grouped under 14 topical headings (such as biographies, recruitment, psychosocial factors) but detailed indexes to authors, subject, and personal name give ready entry to other references.
