One hundred eleven papers, with discussion, preponderantly concerned with diagnosis, therapeutic clinics, technical options and methods, and long-term results in congenital anomalies, valve replacement, and coronary artery disease. The first nine papers are historical perspectives from pioneers in cardiac surgery; the closing six papers look at the "state-of-the-art" in cardiac substitution (transplants and mechanical substitutes). The papers are generally long, the illustrations plentiful, and the index is detailed. Likely to be useful in all libraries meeting needs in cardiology, either medical or surgical.
