To the editor: Although traveler's diarrhea has been described repeatedly from various parts of the world, Mexico is known to be a common source for this condition (1-3). The author's recent trips to Mexico and Peru in chartered flights offered an opportunity to examine the relative frequencies and characteristics of this problem among large groups of vacationers.
On 16 April 1977 a chartered plane carrying 162 vacationers from the New England area arrived at Acapulco, Mexico. On 10 March 1978 another group of 380 went to Lima, Peru. The tours were arranged by travel agents as a vacation package that
