Much of the material in this latest edition has been updated from the two previous editions. Each chapter begins with a brief review of the "state of the art" and emphasizes many of the newer developments in the field. The text, which is succinct and clear, presents an abbreviated history of immunohematology, as well as sections on the nature, structure, and function of antigens and antibodies. The genetic expression of these determinants is explained, as well as their clinical significance. A concise review of the histocompatibility locus is provided in the final chapter.
