A pedagogically effective introduction to applied statistics. The examples are drawn from a much wider field than biology and medicine, and only the simplest methods are discussed. This text will not serve the needs of most investigators for working guidance in the way that a more focused and detailed text such as Colton's Statistics in Medicine; but at least some of its chapters should be helpful to trainees in research who have not already learned the fundamentals of the statistical point of view.
