The editors have compiled a series of both short and lengthy essays into the form of a "dictionary." "Encyclopedic dictionary" might have been a more apt title, because it is not a dictionary of terms in the standard sense. Some definitions are offered in the articles, but for the most part the entries are short essays on a given topic.
Unfortunately, the essays are on the whole weak and are not written by distinguished experts, despite the claim on the cover that there were "116 eminent contributors." Virtually all of the authors are in the field of medicine, and virtually
