The technological explosion in medicine has been most noticeable in the cardiovascular area. Understanding of cardiovascular events has increased tremendously, and in perhaps no other area of medicine is the tie between biological and physical science so evident. This book is intended as an introduction to the mechanics involved in circulatory physiology. The authors—experienced biomedical engineers, physiologists, and clinicians—discuss the fundamental mechanical principles involved in function and regulation in the cardiovascular system.
The first part of the book reviews the basic principles of mechanics, including particle mechanics, fluid mechanics, units and dimensions, flow in model systems, properties of vessel walls,
