Detailed review, in nine chapters, of the major histocompatibility systems of humans, other primates, dogs, cattle, pigs, rabbits, Syrian hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, mice, chickens, and ectothermic vertebrates. The closing chapter considers evolutionary and comparative aspects of the field. The chapter on humans briefly sets forth the HLA associations with disease.
