A clinical classic, still succinct and most readable, as valuable today as it was in its first edition (1921). Recent developments in diagnostic methods, such as ultrasonography and radioisotopic scanning, have added to accuracy in diagnosis, but the close observation, ample knowledge, and careful judgment stimulated by this book are still vital for effective clinical assessment and efficient use of ancillary diagnostic methods. A book that should be thoroughly read and digested by all medical students and house officers, as well as by older physicians who may be rusty in the skills needed for this type of care.
