To the editor: As a physician with long experience in geriatric medicine in the United Kingdom, I strongly support the views expressed by Dr. Tamara Harris in her letter (1) in the May issue.
Geriatric medicine does not relate only to "nursing home" or other long-stay patients; good geriatric medicine should be seen as good internal medicine practiced on elderly patients to a standard as high as in any other age group. To do this, however, means the application of a coordinated multidisciplinary effort to a degree that is equaled in only a few other specialty situations. This is the
