The diagnostic value of needle biopsy in the assessment of thyroid nodules has been recognized increasingly during the past 2 decades. However, North American internists, surgeons, and pathologists have been reluctant to use such techniques. This reluctance has been gradually abating, but it has been difficult to obtain from the published literature the necessary instructive technical and interpretative details. The present book fills that need.
The first of the book's four sections reviews past literature on methods for clinical evaluation of thyroid nodules supporting the importance of needle biopsy as a diagnostic aid and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of
