To the editor: In his article "The Medical Record as a Basis for Assessing Physician Competence" (1), Beverly Payne adds new information to the meager store of knowledge on this important subject. He refers to Private Initiative in Quality Assurance(PIQuA), but the necessarily brief allusion does not adequately or correctly describe its major characteristics.
