The first edition of this easy-to-follow guide to the general physical examination appeared in 1974 and gained wide use both as a beginning text and as a working reference for patient care. The first two chapters are new and deal with obtaining and recording the health history—topics omitted from the original edition "to allow a clearer focus on the examination itself." The ensuing method for recording the results of physical examination of an adult is cross-referenced to the rest of the text.
