The fourteen reviews in Membrane Transduction Mechanisms are based on papers given at the Thirty-third Symposium of the Society of General Physiology. They cover specific topics under four section headings: membrane receptors (bacteriorhodopsin, antigen recognition and signaling), pumps (bacteriorhodopsin, bacterial photosynthetic membrane polarization), sensory transduction (including sensory transduction in bacterial chemotaxis and information transfer related to the adenylate cyclase system), mechano-transduction, and ionic currents.
Dr. Beck's concise monograph surveys structural and functional properties of biological membranes, focusing on unicellular organisms and cells of higher animals. It includes an appended short bibliography with annotations on particularly useful
