To the editor: We wish to comment on the serum vanadium levels mentioned by Bello-Reuss and colleagues (1) in their report "Serum Vanadium Levels in Chronic Renal Disease" (1). Table 1 shows that their mean value corresponds to the outdated figure of Schroeder and coworkers (2) but differs substantially from more recent data. More particularly, work in our laboratory yielded normal concentrations below 1 ng/mL (3). The accuracy and precision of our method were carefully checked by analyses of reference materials (Bowen's kale powder, International Atomic Energy Agency animal muscle H-4, and National Bureau of Standards bovine liver SRM 1577)
