To the editor: Recent editorials and letters in your journal on geriatric problems have centered on speciality training for future physicians. All have neglected what needs to be done now about patients in nursing homes. Over 1 million persons now live in such facilities throughout the country, but internist responsibility for their care is the exception rather than the rule. Nursing home patients and nursing home staff should have the services of internists. We should not be excused from this responsibility because surveys in medical schools show negative attitudes towards aging. Our profession should be mature enough to meet the
