It is amazing at times what pearls can exist, hidden in the shadow of an encyclopedic compendium such as presented by The Science and Practice of Clinical Medicine under the aegis of John M. Dietschy. Such a jewel is Volume 5 in the series. The format of this book provides a remarkable déjàvu to the much-heralded Textbook of Neurology by Dr. Rosenberg's mentor, H. Houston Merritt. Basic clinical-anatomic correlations provide the matrix, which is fleshed out with précis of individual disease processes. Morton Schwartz provides an excellent and timely summary of intracranial infections. Cerebrovascular diseases are presented by Richard Tindall
