To the editor: Dr. Stead and his coinvestigators in Arkansas have published six communications (1-6) on what Stead calls a "new" form of treatment for pulmonary tuberculosis that he regards as "a quiet revolution" (6). His method represents a modification of the short-course chemotherapy regimen devised by the British Thoracic Association in about 1972 and recommended by that group as the "treatment of choice" for pulmonary tuberculosis in 1976 (7). In 1980 the American Thoracic Society (8) and the Center for Disease Control of the U.S. Public Health Service (9) also endorsed this regimen. Considering the worldwide importance of this
