Although neither a highly detailed technical manual nor a heavily illustrated atlas, this expensive but finely printed survey will give the reader not familiar with preoperative assessment and preparation, anesthesia, operative technique, and postoperative care for cardiac surgery a broad and clear view of the surgical approach to coronary-artery bypass, mitral-valve commissurotomy or valvuloplasty, repair of patient ductus arteriosus, relief of coarctation, and correction of systemic-pulmonary shunts.
