To the editor: I read with interest the review of mebendazole (1) because here in the Petén of Guatemala we have been using mebendazole in both our mobile clinic and paramedics' program for 3 years. Fortunately, we can purchase this medication at only 40 cents per treatment of six tablets, from a Guatemalan drug company.
We agree completely that mebendazole is very effective in the treatment of ascariasis, trichuriasis, and hookworm infections abounding in this area of tropical jungle. However, although the authors mention the problem of "possible" migration of Ascaris during treatment with mebendazole, they state that "researchers in
