Over the last 10 years ethical dilemmas in the practice of medicine have been of increasing concern for both philosphers and clinicians, and the field has begun to merit some curricular time (elective or "core") in most North American medical schools. Since this concern began, numerous textbooks and even an encyclopedia in medical ethics have been published. Considering all of these activities within the field, books like Professor Pence's should reflect the growing maturity of the discipline.
