A monograph assembled from papers and discussions presented at the Eosinophil Centennial held in September 1979. The 18 papers are grouped in five sections: history, structure, and productions; structure-function relationships; local control mechanisms; roles in immunity and immunopathology; and clinical implications. The audience for this monograph will be mainly investigative hematologists, parasitologists, and immunologists, but five papers are likely to receive wider attention: the historical papers by the Hirschs and Max Samter; the paper on eosinopenia by David A.
