Sheila Sherlock's textbook has dominated hepatology for a quarter of a century. Why? No doubt the author's vast knowledge, instinct for the important, and adaptability to changing concepts all contribute. But above all her concise, lucid, and authoritative prose has ensured the book's classic status. This new edition, 6 years after the last, again has these admirable traits. The book covers the entire field of liver and biliary tract disease in succinct, didactic fashion. The information is remarkably current, and the overall balance is just right—there is plenty here for novice and specialist alike.
