In his preface to Current Hematology, Dr. Fairbanks, the editor, summarizes nicely the plight of even the academic subspecialist in trying to keep informed of what is developing in his or her field. More than 20 journals plus a smaller number of review collections represent hematology, and to that number one must add the general journals in clinical medicine and clinical investigation as well as, occasionally, journals exotic to hematology such as Poultry Science and ASCD Journal of Dentistry for Children.
