To the editor: I write to point out that there are contradictory statements in the editorial by Stang and Lewis (1).
1. Extensive experience of exercising patients between 1 and 3 weeks after infarction has already shown the apparent safety of this technique.
2. Not to do an exercise test before discharge is, in a way, to ask the patient to do the treadmill test at home.
3. Early exercise testing after infarction probably should remain a technique for tertiary care centers and not be used in every hospital giving coronary care.
