A dermatology book with only black-and-white photographs would not seem to have much going for it. Nevertheless, Fry and associates have assembled a discriminating encyclopedia of dermatology. The use of the word "illustrated" in the title, however, is going to disappoint many who expect color plates. Many of the photographs presented are dark. Some are out of focus and others poorly depict the disease. If we accept this shortcoming, then we will be better able to enjoy the more positive aspects of the book.
The authors hoped that this book would fill a gap between smaller texts and large references.
