We describe five patients with chronic idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura who had transient remission after acute respiratory infection. The level of platelet-associated IgG, measured in three of these patients, was increased before infection but was normal when the platelet count was elevated. The level of circulating immune complexes did not show any significant change. We conclude that the elevation of platelet count after acute respiratory infection was due to the decreased production of platelet autoantibody.
