Most of the currently available pulmonary textbooks are either brief primers that emphasize pathophysiology and are designed to satisfy the needs of medical students, or encyclopedias for the burgeoning ranks of pulmonary fellows and subspecialists.
This book is a relatively successful attempt to steer a middle course as a textbook for medical students that will also appeal to clinicians who do not specialize in pulmonary medicine. The latter will recognize the appropriateness of the title. Medical students will enjoy the clinical emphasis, but may supplement their knowledge by reading John West's Respiratory Physiology and Pulmonary Pathophysiology.
