To the editor: After the exciting pioneering work on the curability of histiocytic lymphoma conducted at the National Institutes of Health in the mid 1970s, there has been a stream of pilot studies using various treatments for histiocytic lymphoma. The article, "Combination Chemotherapy of Advanced Diffuse Histiocytic Lymphoma With the Six-Drug COP-BLAM Regimen," by Laurence and associates in the August issue (1) is only the latest in this stream.
The only conclusions that can be drawn from this small pilot study in a disease like histiocytic lymphoma with a 50% cure rate is that the treatment is tolerable and has
