Each time I have read a book by Edmond Murphy I have wondered which of my friends or students would enjoy getting the book as a gift. The ideal recipient would be interested in a great many things that at first seem only tangentially related to the subject at hand. The appreciative reader would not be looking for a cookbook, collection of formulas, or easy answers to hard problems.
Biostatistics in Medicine follows the same intellectual pattern as Murphy's earlier books—particularly The Logic of Medicine. The technical background is sound and well presented. At first, it may seem overwhelming for
