An extensive controlled trial of treatment with isoniazid to prevent the development of infectious tuberculosis among persons with fibrotic pulmonary lesions adds data important in evaluating the role of this drug in tuberculosis control (1). Important questions remain, and much of the evaluation as it pertains to an individual patient still lies with the physician; however, deciding whether to prescribe treatment for a fibrotic pulmonary lesion has now been placed on a more rational basis.
