A most difficult task was faced by the editor of this collection. In one book, he had to gather different articles on a most specialized area of scholarship, legal medicine. Unfortunately, Cyril Wecht has succeeded only in part.
The series begins with a discussion on gunshot wounds written by a physician and two medical students. Although this topic is very interesting and most informative to lawyers, its value to physicians—particularly those with experience in forensic pathology—is probably questionable.
In contrast, the article "Death: Defining and Determining" by McCarthy DeMere, a physician and attorney, is outstanding. Dr. DeMere's 15 pages chronicle
