To introduce the beginner to cardiac auscultation, the author has collected a series of simulated heart sounds and murmurs on a 1-hour narrated cassette tape and provided a brief manual. The manual contains a series of questions for self-testing. With simple line drawings of sounds and electrocardiograms, the author briefly explains each of the sounds and murmurs presented on the tape. The tape can be played on an ordinary cassette player (preferably one of high quality), and listening is done through an ordinary stethoscope, with the bell placed a few inches from the speaker.
