This report "explains how data were collected during the first National Medical Care Utilization and Expenditure Survey cycle, which covered calendar year 1980. Information was obtained from the U.S. civilian noninstitutionalized population on health, access to and use of medical services, associated charges, sources of payments, and health insurance coverage. Content of the survey is described in the report, including reproductions of questionnaires used during household interviews, and descriptions of data extracted from the Medicaid and Medicare administrative records.
