Arthur selzer is a world-renowned cardiologist with more than 30 years of clinical experience. In writing the second edition of this textbook, his declared intention is not to present pure factual information but rather to aid clincians "in their process of thinking." He states, "The presentation of factual material in great detail might detract from the problem-solving approach and therefore be undesirable." This novel approach, reminiscent of the books by Paul Wood and Charles Friedberg, would indeed be a refreshing and welcome respite from today's multiauthored tomes. Unfortunately, the author fails.
The first half of the book is devoted to
