The usefulness of a multiauthored text may often be uncovered by searching for the answer to a specific problem. With this approach, the strengths and weaknesses of a book are often rapidly revealed. Few faults can be found in this readable, cohesive, authoritative treatise on cardiovascular disease. There are 51 authors, yet their contributions are combined harmoniously by the editor. The introductory aspects of the cardiac examination are particularly well done, and include the generous use of illustrations. The illustrations in the chapter on coronary arteriography deserve special praise, but the same might be said for those in the chapters
