To the editor: In response to Dr. Blois' questions (1) regarding my software review of The INTERNIST™ (2), I am providing additional information.
In testing the program, I selected two common and serious disorders, myocardial infarction and meningitis, from the list of diagnoses about which the program has information. Without reviewing the program's knowledge base regarding these conditions, I made up two brief prototypical scenarios for patients presenting with the conditions. I then ran each scenario once and only once.
Dr. Blois complains that he was unable to find the manifestations used for the patient scenarios when he looked for
