Many books on echocardiography have appeared since Feigenbaum's Echocardiography was published over 10 years ago. As the subtitle of Dr. Arvan's book indicates, he attempts to integrate the uses of echocardiography with those of other noninvasive methods, including nuclear cardiology, phonocardiography, external pulse recording, and Doppler techniques. On the whole this goal is accomplished reasonably well.
The book is well organized and easy to read. The first eight chapters were apparently written by Dr. Arvan, at least three of the chapters were written by other authors. Some material discussed in the first eight chapters is repeated in the ninth chapter,
