Medically and pharmacologically, the elderly comprise a special group. Any book on geriatric pharmacology needs to delve deeply into three areas: altered pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics; diseases common among the elderly and their treatment; and adverse drug effects that have special significance to the aged patient. In most of these regards this book tends to miss the mark. Introductory chapters present useful basic pharmacologic information and a nice section on quack cures along with tables on sources of further information.
In the clinical chapters, discussions tend to apply to the general population rather than being targeted to the elderly.
