Most physicians at the end of their training are uninformed about the managerial and administrative aspects of medical practice. They have been busy accumulating knowledge and clinical skills in a protective atmosphere. Dr. Weiss's book addresses this deficiency, primarily for rheumatologists. His discussion of the concepts upon which a successful practice is built is applicable to internal medicine or the subspecialties, not just rheumatology. He appropriately points out that a well-managed office can carry out a service mission successfully and not become merely self-serving. His description of financial management and insurance is for the most part concise and clear. The
