Careful consideration is needed before buying a book of this price, especially for owners of a previous edition. The best reason for buying this book is that it is the only comprehensive text of pulmonary pathology.
This edition has the same strengths and merits as the previous ones. Its approach is scholarly (there are approximately 3200 references) and many topics are covered in historical perspective. Emphasis is on etiology and pathogenesis, and both (or more) sides of the story are usually presented.
The weaknesses of previous editions also are apparent. A formula approach to topics is used—first come historical references,
