The cafeteria was the best Mexican restaurant in town. Steele was always fond of saying so. That was one of the benefits of working in San Jose. The Mexican restaurant, I mean. Not that I want to cast any aspersions on Steele. He was a genuine sort, treated his patients with respect and was available more than any other OB-GYN man I've ever known. And that's saying a lot because most of them work around the clock. They flock together for the preservation of sanity. Babies drop in without knowledge of the cocktail hour.
