To the editor: A recent editorial (1) correctly points out that classification criteria are often vital to readers' judgments on the validity of conclusions in an article. Primary Sjögren's syndrome is the second commonest of the chronic inflammatory connective tissue diseases, but internationally accepted criteria for that disease are lacking. The confusion within the diagnosis of this disease varies. Even the terminology differs as authors refer to Sjögren's syndrome, sicca complex, dry syndrome, and so on. When the term dry-sicca-Sjögren is used, the confusion is obvious. Thus, we introduced the terms primary and secondary Sjögren's syndrome (2).
