Attempts to build a foundation for practitioners as they deal with the problems of the quadriplegic, the child with cancer, the newborn with birth defects, and with other tragedies. The accounts of the patients are gut-wrenching but useful for their insights. An excellent chapter on adapting to hemodialysis should be required reading for clinicians.
