To the editor: Abrams and colleagues (1) reported in the January issue the development of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) in homosexual men with immune thrombocytopenia. They noted that all 35 homosexual men with immune thrombocytopenia in their clinic were seropositive for human T-lymphotrophic virus type III (HTLV-III) and that 3 of these man have developed AIDS.
In our community-based referral practice we have treated eight homosexual men for immune thrombocytopenia. All are white and range in age from 28 to 52 years. The duration of follow-up has been from 6 months to 3 years. Presenting symptoms of bleeding or
