Despite several recent advances in the management of diabetes mellitus, many patients fall short of the desired therapeutic goal. Only about 1% to 7% of diabetes is brittle, defined in this book as "metabolic instability sufficient to cause disruption of the life-style or endanger the life of a patient." The management of patients with brittle diabetes requires the combined skills of experts in many related fields. Many such experts, most of them working in British hospitals, collaborated to produce this excellent book.
