To the editor: In the Annals' January issue, Masur and colleagues (1) reported on the effect of 9-(1,3-dihydroxy-2-propoxymethyl) guanine (DHPG) on serious cytomegalovirus disease in 8 immunosuppressed homosexual men. The data outlined in that article bear some resemblance to data included in their paper published in the January issue of the American Journal of Ophthalmology (2). I was unable to tell whether these papers included data on some of the same patients or whether they represented two entirely different studies on separate patient groups. If these articles do represent different studies, then the amount of information regarding the authors' use
